About Us
Le Vieux Pressoir is a very pretty, south-facing complex comprising a lovely old farmhouse, two cottages, and large pool, on the edge of the tiny village of Vieux Pont-en-Auge. Peaceful and secluded it is deep in the beautiful Pays d’Auge countryside, yet it is only about 40 minutes drive from Ouistreham the port of Caen and the coast.

We provide: all gas, electricity, water and heating including half m3 of firewood in the winter months (Calvados Still and Farmhouse only), all linen*, cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and starter supplies of soap, washing-up liquid, cleaning materials, shampoo, kitchen roll and loo rolls, and basic cooking materials such as oil, salt, pepper, herbs and spices.

The Setting
One of the most peaceful and pretty villages in Calvados, Vieux Pont-en-Auge is a protected village and is famous for its attractive half-timbered buildings, the local manoir, and the 1,000 year old church. The village is set on a small hill overlooking miles of countryside. It is exceptionally peaceful yet only a short drive from a bustling town or the coast. We live just to the east of the village in a protected valley, which has an abundance of wild life, very close to the quiet river, ‘La Viette”, with farmland, orchards and fields on every side.
The local Monday market in St Pierre sur Dives (ten minutes by car) simply can’t be missed. Centred around a medieval market hall and square, this typical French market is full of fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, local produce, and animals of every description. Colourful and lively, there is a great atmosphere as everyone meets friends, buys their weeks supplies and barters over prices.
The property
Set in nearly two acres of quiet, tranquil grounds, laid mainly to lawn, the house and cottages, each overlook the securely fenced swimming pool and spacious grassed safe play areas. The small complex is surrounded by apple orchards and open countryside often stocked with grazing cattle.
Each of the four independent well-equipped properties is insulated and heated. They have securely fenced private gardens equipped with swings, barbecues, garden furniture, and children’s bikes, trikes, and push toys.
We usually grow our own fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables, to which you are welcome to help yourself. David, son James and I are English and have been here for many years Alexandra, James' partner is French. We live nearby, speak fluent French and can help you plan your ideal holiday. We operate to the highest standards to ensure you enjoy your ‘home from home’. |
